The Sunday Electrical Volunteers Report 25-3-2012.

Post by asbibby »

What a gorgeous day it was today, the start of British Summer Time, not a cloud in the sky, and warm as well.

Len was back with us today after a few weeks away looking after his wife, he was joined by Jonathan, John and myself, Clive had texted in to say that his car had broken down on his way to the railway and he would see us all next week.

Len and Jonathan went off to do the tests on the fire alarm call points in the booking hall and the Trackside, all was well with the tests and the findings were recorded in the log book.

Seeing that BST had arrived all the Station clocks and time clocks required resetting one hour forward, Rawtenstall Station clock in the booking hall will be done next week.

The two canopy light which we had taken down from outside of Rawtenstall Station last Sunday, were stripped down, the ballast and capacitor removed from the fittings, the units were then rewired to take a standard bayonet fitting low energy light bulbs.
The plastic covers from the canopy lights which had been damaged last week because of seized screws, were repaired using Araldite epoxy resin and the aluminium cases were then rubbed down and repainted black.

Lunch was taken outside our workshop in glorious sunshine.

After lunch Jonathan, John and myself went for a walk down to the Carriage & Wagon shed to see if any more carriages were in for work to be carried out on them.
We found one carriage outside with a notice " No vacuum " this carriage has old carriage plugs on in need of refurbishment, on checking in the C & W another carriage was over the pit, again the plugs require changing.
A member of the C & W staff will ask if they can be replaced next week.

Len and John stripped a photoflood light fitting which had been dumped in the workshop, they cleaned all the dirt and loose paint off the unit then tested it to see if it was working satisfactory.
It was then rubbed down ready for repainting.
We had plenty of time left so the unit was then painted along with a couple of brackets which will hold the photoflood in position.

That was it for another Sunday, back next week.
Deep in the heart of Swinetown.
