The Sunday Electrical Volunteers Report 18-3-2012.

Post by asbibby »

Jonathan was in again on Saturday cleaning and testing the recovered electrical components recovered last week from the old Standard fayre building.

On Sunday Jonathan was joined by myself and Clive, John was at a radio amateur radio show and Len was looking after his wife who is unwell.

Jonathan and myself did the weekly checks on the fire alarm call point in BBS and The Trackside, everything was satisfactory and we recorded our findings in the log book.

Stephen Holt had previously reported that the outside canopy lights at Rawtenstall Station were not working, so we decided to do a light check at Rawtenstall Station. We obtained spare lights, our long ladder and our tools and caught the 10:20 train up to Rawtenstall.

There are five outside canopy lights one of which we had stripped previously and refurbished because of water ingress due to a leaky roof.
On checking the circuit breaker asssociated with the canopy and clock tower lights we found that the circuit breaker had tripped.
We tried to remove the light covers which were held on with two allen key screws, four out of the five fittings had their screws seized solid.
To find out which unit was faulty we got into the loft to trace the wiring, which was fed via a junction box with three output wires, all the wiring was dissconnected and the fault was found to be one of the two fittings to the left of the main entrance.
The first one was levered off the underside of the canopy, i got drenched as the fitting was full of water, we cut the cable back and proceded to dissconnect the other fitting, for possible refurbishment back in our workshop.
The entrance canopy fitting and the two canopy fittings on the Rawtenstall end are now working OK.
We will see if the two we took down can be fixed and then we will refurbish the other two fittings.

Clive had a look at the brass mechanical clock on the wall in the booking hall, which appeared to have stopped receiving pulses from the microprocessor that controls both the booking hall clock and the mechanical clock.
After resetting the micro a few times and doing a few electronic tests, Clive seemed happy with the results and we left both clocks working OK.

Whilst we were at Rawtenstall we carried out a Station Platform light check, all were working satisfactory

We then caught the delayed train back to BBS and the workshop for a well earned brew and a natter.
Deep in the heart of Swinetown.
