The Sunday Electrical Volunteers Report 14-2-2012.

Post by asbibby »

Clive was absent today, a prior engagement involving a christening was the message received in mid week.

Jonathan was first in followed by myself, Len and John, Simon the full time electrician had contacted me during the week asking for some help in installing a fire alarm and emergency lighting system in the accomadation sleeping carriage down at Baron Street.

Jonathan and Len went off to test out the fire alarm call points in The Trackside and BBS, everything was OK and they logged their findings.

We all then made our way down to Baron Street to suss out what needed doing to install the safety system, Simon located the cables bought for the purpose and we proceeded to install the mains cables from the distribution box in the shower compartment, we installed the fire alarm cable first from the south end of the carriage, after we had unfastened all the corridor lights hinged access lids and threaded the cable the entire length of the corridor, then into the electrical cubicle at the north end of the carriage.
The cable was then pushed through the floor and fastened to a wooden beam underneath the shower/toilet cubicle.

The same route was taken for the emergency lighting system, but this time putting loops into were the emergency lights will be fitted.

Lunch was then taken back in our workshop before making our way back to Baron Street via the C & W shed were we dropped off two sets of refurbished carriage plugs.

Once back in the sleeping carriage we clipped both cables in their permanent positions using P clips.

The corridor lighting in the sleeping carriage left a lot to be desired, namely that most of them did not work, this was sorted by first of all replacing all the hinged lids which we had previously dropped down and replacing ten fifteen inch fluorescent tubes.

The five foot tube adjacent to the distribution board was changed also.
It now looks as bright as Blackpool Illuminations.

We all made our way back to the workshop for a brew and a piece of chocolate cake and cream which John had brought in, Yummy, sorry Clive we didn't save you any!

Next weeek we shall be installing the fire alarm control panel and the emergency lights. :)
Deep in the heart of Swinetown.
