The Sunday Electrical Volunteers Report 13-11-2011.

I was joined today with Jonathan, Len and John, Clive was on a Jolly.
Jonathan and Len got cracking and did their tests on the fire alarm call points in BBS and The Trackside, all was well and their findings were recorded in the log book.

One of the floodlights under the booking office had been reported not working we thought this would be a simple task of just getting out our scaffold and replacing the bulb.
A spare bulb was fitted no joy, the supply to the light was tested, 240v was detected, so with the unit being twenty foot up on a concrete pillar and ballast and capacitors in the unit I decided to take down the unit to investigate the problem.
The capacitor had burnt out so we bypassed all the ballast circuitry and fitted a standard 150w station light bulb with a built in ballast.

Just before eleven we all assembled on the overbridge in front of the railway war memorial to pay our respects and observe the two minutes silence.

The light unit was then bench tested before the unit was refitted back on the pillar and tested, the scaffold was then packed away again and lunch was taken.

A new longer mains lead was required on an Dimplex oil assisted heater in Bury South signal box so we set off down to the box, again what we thought would be a simple task turned out to be a bit trickier than we anticipated.
The wiring to the control unit had the mains input on the inside of the control unit, meaning all of the control unit had to be stripped down before we could replace the mains lead, rewire and test it.

Next stop was the C & W shop to drop off some tins which they use when painting, we had a chat with Gilbert in C & W and checked out the Thumper unit which is having some much needed bodywork repairs, the dreaded rust bug has played havoc with the bodywork, it is going to be a big job.

We then made our way back to our workshop for a brew and a chat before packing our tools away and making our way home.
Deep in the heart of Swinetown.
