The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 10-7-2011.

Jonathan came in on Saturday to carry on with the carriage plug refurbishment program.

On Sunday a full compliment of volunteers turned up plus Simon the full time ELR electrician with only Jonathan missing due to personal reasons.

Len and John checked out the fire alarm call points at BBS and The Trackside and recorded their findings as per usual.

Clive and myself went across to the cafe on platform three/four to check out the ice cream freezer which had tripped out the main circuit breaker in the cafe. The conclusion by Simon was that the compressor motor what running hot and tripping out the circuit breaker in the cafe.
The freezer was switched off and the contents removed, the freezer will be reported to the ice cream supplier as the freezer is provided free of charge.

Simon was with us again to carry on with the inspection of carriage W5017 which had failed electrical lighting and electrical train heating (ETH). The carriage racking and ceilings had been removed during last week by the C & W staff to allow us to inspect the electrical wiring for the lights.

To find a base for us to work to, we tested all the lighting circuits in the lighting fuse box by removing each fuse in turn and then testing for insulation resistance and recording our findings.

Simon went off to source the correct fire resistant cabling required for us to replace any wiring.

The weather started to go from bad to worse so we made our way back to our workshop for a brew and some lunch.

After lunch we all made our way back to the carriage to reinstall the central fluorescent light fittings and inverters and then to start to rewire some of the corridor plug and socket light fittings.

I meanwhile before lunch, had stripped the south end of the carriage of it's plugs/leads plus the terminal blocks and wooden patress, one of which was completely rotten.
The bare metal behind the patress was cleaned up painted courtesy of RMB and sealed with silicone sealant before fitting a refurbished terminal unit, complete with refurbished carriage plug/leads and covers.

Then it started to persistantly rain again so we called it a day and made our way back to the workshop.
