The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 30-1-2011.

Post by asbibby »

On Saturday Jonathan came in to do a temporary fix on Summerseat Station platform lights by disconnecting the first light nearest the electrical cubicle, a permament fix will be done next week.
Jonathan then carried on with the ongoing carriage plug refurbishment programme in our workshop.

John had rung me on Saturday to say he would not be in on Sunday has he had strained his back.

On Sunday Clive, Len, Jonathan and myself turned up, first task as usual was to test the fire alarm call points in The Booking Hall and The Trackside Pub/ Cafe and the findings recorded.

During the week Clive had purchased a new photo cell and junction box for the Station lights at Summerseat, also purchased was a new stepper motor for the Ray Butcher clock which we are rebuilding.
The wooden surround has been stripped of layers of paint and sanded down to a smooth finish.

Clive started to drill the spare lamp head to accomodate the additional cable required for the photo cell whilst the rest of us went to Baron Street to assist Simon to move some electrical equipment, we decided that we would shift the equipment next week.

We had been informed that some of the Platform lights at Heywood Station were not working, so Clive, Jonathan and Len sourced some new bulbs, got out our tower scaffold loaded it onto the train and set off to Heywood.

I stopped behind to fit the new photo cell, control unit, wiring into a spare lamp head ready for fitting at Summerseat Station next week, this involved some delicate work in threading a three core cable through the steel tubing of the lamp head, the finished job looks quite good with all the wiring concealed.

Clive, Len and Jonathan then returned from Heywood having replaced three bulbs in the platform lamps.

The new wiring involving the photo cell was checked and proved to be working satisfactory, the lamp head was then touched up with black paint were we had drilled new holes to accomodate the new wiring.
Clive then updated the circuit diagrams for the Summerseat Station remote platform lights switching.

A stock check was then done on all the various lights we keep and updated on our computer database.

Another day in the life of the electrical volunteers was over after a final brew and a Toblerone which was provided by Len.
Deep in the heart of Swinetown.
