The Electrical Volunteers report Sunday 31-10-2021.

Post by asbibby »

:) The electrical volunteers in today, were Clive, John, Jonathan, Colin and myself, after a brew we decided that the weather was not consistent with erecting the Christmas lights at Rawtenstall Station, as it was persistently raining.

We had plenty of work to be carrying on with which would not see us wet through, a note had been left in our workshop asking us to test a replacement cooling liquid pump from a lathe in the Bury Standard 4 Group workshop.
The motor was a three phase motor which tested out OK and will now be modified to suit the lathe. :)

Stephen in the Bury shop asked us to have look at the two overhead lights outside of the main doors to the Station, this turned out to be a corroded 4 pin D type socket in the light fitting, a replacement socket was sourced from a new D type light fitting we had in stock. This tested out OK then the other D type fitting started to flash on and off, both had been previously fitted with D type 4 pin LED lights and we are now out of stock, a new one will have to be ordered.

Lunch was then taken in our workshop with a brew and a MR. Kipling,s finest, apple and toffee pies supplied by Sue, Sue. :D

After lunch we took down one of the overhead concourse light fittings which we have been modifying by fitting new LED emergency lighting strips and LED five foot tubes.
Clive rewired and then tested the light fitting before we erected it on the overhead concourse bridge. 8)

We recovered the Bury Bolton Street Station Christmas lights and laid them out in front of our workshop to find out how many LED bulbs required changing, numerous bulbs were changed, they were then erected on platform two and tested. 8)

It was reported to us that the heating was not working in the mess room at Baron Street Works, we did a few tests on the two heaters in the mess room and it appears both heaters are faulty and may have to be replaced. :|

A final brew was had with a piece of jam and cream cake provided by John to celebrate his birthday. :D

We shall be back next week for more illuminating stories.
