The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 31-12-2017.

Post by asbibby »

:D The last report of the year 2017 and it was Jonathan, Clive and myself, Len was still feeling unwell and John was at a birthday party, OK for some, but at least the weather was good. 8)

After a swift brew and a mince pie we collected our tools and a new fuse box and caught the 09:30 train pulled by the black five 45212 back from it's sojourns on the main line. Our destination was Summerseat Station to replace fuse holder and reconnect the Station lights lighting the pathway to the platform.

The other three lamp posts were then checked to see if the ants had been at work during the Summer months excavating soil inside the lamp posts, sure enough they had, so hand fulls of soil was removed and we will put some ant powder down in Spring.

The lights were all checked to ensure they were all lit, job done and we returned to Bury Bolton Street via Rawtenstall.

It was then time for some lunch back in our workshop with a welcome brew and some custard tarts supplied by Sue, Mmmmmm. 8)

I had been asked a few weeks ago to replace a double fluorescent fitting in the Bury standard 4 Group workshop, the unit was very old and was not working. We sourced a replacement double fitting with a good reflector some chain and wired it up and checked it out on the bench in the workshop prior to fitting.

The mobile tower scaffold was brought out and assembled to access and remove the old fitting and replace it with the new on, we were asked to put the new fitting in a better position and to lower the fitting to provide more light over the work
benches. 8)

It was then back to our workshop for another brew and a mince pie before calling it a day and making our way home just as it started to rain.

Back next week to make a start on taking down and recovering all the Christmas lights from the Stations.

A happy New Year to all the readers of the NUELR forum, back in 2018 with 80097 on ELR metals in steam for the first time.

Ant powder is a waste of time, a sponge soaked in Creosote or Wood Preserver will sort the little b****rs.

I'm thinking a dry mix of sand and cement. It'll soon get damp and set in the bottom of the lamp. I'll see if we can get some creosote down first.
