The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 10-12-2017.

Post by asbibby »

:) On a freezing Sunday morning only three of us turned up, Len has contacted us he was feeling unwell and John was at a radio auction.
The three of us collected some tools after a swift brew and a mince pie and caught the first Santa train up to Summerseat Station to find were the fault was causing the station lights to trip.

On arrival we reset the circuit breaker hoping that the lamp post we found last week, the fuse holder was covered in soil excavated by thousands of ants probably in the Summer period.
The fuse holder was squirted with WD40 to try to repel some moisture and the circuit breaker reset to no avail, the lights tripped again on resetting the circuit breaker.

It was decided then to try to take the bottom cover off the fuse carrier to see if the soil and damp had penetrated the wiring causing the circuit breaker to trip.
The screws holding the cover on had rusted, so we resorted to break the plastic connection box & fuse carrier to get at the wiring, sure enough dampness had penetrated the wiring.
We disconnected the wiring and reset the circuit breaker and hey presto the station platform lights are working again, there are three lights lighting the path down from the platform these are the ones not lit now. We will effect a permanent repair in the Spring only two lights are not working on the path the rest are working OK. 8)

The Santa train was then caught taking us back to our workshop in Bury BoltonStreet Station for our lunch, a warm and another brew.

We then made our way down to the Bury Standard 4 Group workshop to install another fluorescent fitting and to repair some other lights which were not working.

Back in the workshop for a final brew and to finish off the deep filled mince pies, back next week for some more enlightening thoughts. T.T.F.N.
