The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 19-11-2017.

Post by asbibby »

8) A beautiful Sunday greeted us today, clear blue skies and nice warm sunshine, if only all Winter days were like this.
I was joined by Len, Jonathan, Clive and Jonathan, Jonathan had come in early to get the mobile tower scaffold ready along with all the Christmas lights, spares bulbs and some tools, as we needed to catch the first train the 09:30 to Ramsbottom Station were the lights were to be erected. 8)

We offloaded all our gear from the guards van onto the platform and reassembled the mobile tower scaffold.
The first string of lights were erected on the lamp posts along the platform and then a lamp check was done on the lights, a total of thirty five duff lamps were changed.
We then realised that we would be short of spare bulbs so Clive volunteered to go back to our workshop to get more bulbs, he managed to return to Ramsbottom Station within the hour.
Lunch was then taken in the waiting room which had a glowing welcoming fire raging and tea provided generously by the Ramsbottom Station staff. :D

A received a phone call from the Bury Standard 4 Group asking us to look at the electrical three phase supply to the small lathe as the lathe would not work, the problem would have to wait until we returned to base.

After lunch the next string off lights were erected under the station canopy and on to the lamp post nearest the overbridge.
A lamp check revealed a further twenty light bulbs required changing.

The train was then boarded along with all our gear back to Bury Bolton Street Station, on arrival we unloaded all our equipment and myself, John and Jonathan went down to the BS4G workshop to have a look at the supply to the lathe.
After some fault finding it was found that a security key switch was at fault, this was temporarily bypassed to enable some essential turning to be done on the lathe. 8)

The part will be cleaned up or replaced next week.

Clive and Len replaced the blue crossing button which was found last week to have been smashed, John had through the week had fixed with Araldite the black plastic box which housed the blue button.
Fortunately the electronics in the box had survived the previous impact and now the crossing button is active again.
The blue button box has been relocated around the corner as to avoid it being damaged again. :)

Heywood Christmas lights next Sunday if we can get the scaffold onto the shuttle service guards van, if not, no Christmas lights at Heywood Station this year.
Deep in the heart of Swinetown.
