The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 15-10-2017.

Post by asbibby »

I have been away from the ELR for the past two Sundays, so we have a lot to catch up on, i was joined today by Clive, John, Jonathan and Len. Simon and Lewis the full time ELR electricians were also in attendance.

Last week was the Thomas event and a break was taken by our crew, the week previous, Clive informed me that Simon had previously asked if we could install a button call system for passengers who wanted to use the foot crossing at Bury Bolton Street station to summon assistance from the Station staff.
A wireless system was ordered, modified and tested by Clive at home in his workshop, this was duly fitted by the team two weeks ago. The system operates a buzzer in the Tardis and a remote buzzer carried by the Station Master when a call button is pressed. There are a total of four call buttons, two on platform three/four, one on platform two and one on the foot crossing near our workshop.
This crossing is solely for the use of the disabled and families with push chairs to be assisted across the foot crossing safely.

Back to this Sunday and Simon asked if we could have a look at a small cable which had been damaged in the refurbished Diesel Running Shed, this will be sorted next week when we will bring in some test equipment.

We then decided to split into three teams, once we had retrived the six lamp heads to enable Jonathan to paint the reflective part of the lamp heads white.
Clive and John made their way to Ramsbottom Station to check on the Station clock which Clive is modifying from a worn clockwork mechanism to an electronic mechanism. 8)
Len and myself went to Baron Street Works to disconnect and retrieve a large works clock which we had refurbished about eight years ago, it was to be the works clock but Baron Street Works as still not been refurbished.
The clock is quite heavy with a large wooden surround, after utilising some rope and a bar we managed to sling the clock and carry it back to our workshop with numerous stops on the way back. :|

It was then time for some lunch outside again in the warm air, by this time Clive and John had returned from Ramsbottom.

The clock which we had retrieved was then given a good clean and stored safely away. 8)

We went to the Bury Standard Four Group workshop to have a look at some of the lights which required attention, it was an ideal opportunity seeing that the engine was in platform one on show to the public who were attending our Autumn Steam Gala.
A couple of units were fixed but the others which need more attention will have to wait until we can use the mobile tower scaffold to access them safely. :)

The last job of the day was to reassemble the six lamp heads now that the paint had dried, install the LED bulbs, fix the tops on, grease all the screws and finally test them to ensure they were working.

One final brew and some chocolate cookies, no cake today, Shame, then it was off home after a good days work for the Electrical Team. :D
