The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 17-9-2017.

Post by asbibby »

:D A full crew of electrical volunteers in today with a new recruit Stuart who helped Simon & Louis the full time electricians.

Len and myself went off to do the fire alarm tests in the booking hall and the trackside in Bury Bolton Street station, all worked OK and we recorded the tests in the log books.

Clive, Jonathan & John made up conduit connections and wiring for the two faults which had been brought to our attention last week at Ramsbottom Station, the non working tannoy system on platform two and a lamp on the footbridge.

We caught the 10:20 train to Ramsbottom Station along with all the bits of equipment and tools we would need.
Clive and Jonathan got on with stripping back the damp pyro which was causing the light on the footbridge to fail a new pyro end was fitted and a new connection box wired in. The result a working lamp on the footbridge again.

John and myself had been busy lifting flag stones and excavating at the side of the lamp post nearest to the footbridge to try to find the missing tannoy cable. We found a plastic duct running to the footbridge so a new cable was fished through the duct leaving a draw rope through just in case we ever need to pull another cable through it.
The new cable was then tie wrapped to the cable suppling the power to the station lights and the new cable wired into a replacement speaker horn underneath the footbridge. 8)

A test by the station staff of the tannoy system proved that all the loudspeaker horns on both platforms were now working for the first time for ages. :D

The Ramsbottom Station staff looked after us keeping the merry band refreshed with nice cups of tea, Thank You. :)

We then caught the train back to our workshop, had a quick brew and a piece of cake which Clive had brought in and made our way to the Bury Standard 4 Group Workshop to look into why the compressor was not working.
This turned out to be an isolator which was switched off, this provided the three phase supply to the contactor which supplies power to the compressor. An easy fix.

A busy day was had by one and all, back next week for some more enlightening work, either station lamp refurbishment or wiring platform two lights at BBS. :o
