The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 26-02-2017.

:D The five of us turned up today, Clive, Jonathan, John, Len and myself, after a brew we had a visit from Irene of the ELR shop to ask us if we would have a look at the lack of heating in the Cafe coach at Rawtenstall Station platform one.

This fitted in nicely with a planned job which we had at Rawtenstall, which was to install a refurbished lamp head to replace a faulty one we had removed a couple of weeks ago.

The next train was then caught up to Rawtenstall complete with a two section ladder, our tools and the replacement lamp head, on arrival the heating control circuit was checked out controlling the storage heaters.
The control unit battery had lost it's back up power when the carriage was in Baron Street having the bogies swapped, so all the programming requires resetting a job for our full time electrician.

Of the three storage heaters the one nearest the entrance door was checked but no heat was forthcoming even though power was reaching the unit, further investigation is required. The other two storage heaters in the seating area worked satisfactory.

Lunch was then taken in the ELR cafe coach with brews kindly provided by the cafe staff. :)

The newly refurbished lamp head was then erected and tested OK our tools and equipment was then all packed up and loaded onto the train for our trip down the line back to Bury Bolton Street station and the warmth of our workshop.

We finished the day off by completing the strip down of our spare DMU Smith's speedo generator for some testing, a final brew was partaken washed down with some jam and cream roll brought in by Len, Nice.

Back next week for some more enlightening thoughts.
