The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 18-12-2016.

Post by asbibby »

:) Just three of us in today, Jonathan, Len and myself, John is resting and Clive has come down with a cold.

After a swift brew and a mince pie it was off to the Standard Four Group shed to investigate a couple of electrical faults.
The first was that when some lights were switched on the circuit breaker tripped, other switches did not trip the lights so we marked up the switch not to be used and will investigate the fault at a later date.

The second fault was that the lathe at the rear of the shed would not work, this turned out to be a blown fuse on one the red phase which was replaced with a new twenty amp fuse.

The next job we were asked to look at, were two light units which were not lit on the RHS of the C & W shed, we were lucky in that a mobile tower scaffold tall enough to reach the fittings was available for us to use.
Half of the fluorescent tubes had previously been changed by us and the fittings converted to use LED tubes, so we went back to our workshop for twelve LED tubes and set about converting and fitting the new tubes.
We rewired two fittings and fitted LED tubes, after which we went back to our workshop for some lunch, a brew and some chocolate finger cakes.

It was then back to the C & W shed to carry on rewiring and fitting LED tubes, we managed to change them all apart from one unit which proved to be a bit difficult to reach there were to many obstructions in the way of our scaffold.
All the reflective covers of the light units were cleaned and bent at ninety degrees to enable more light to be cast on the sides of the carriages being worked on.

It was then back to the workshop for a final brew and to finish off the chocolate slices.

We will be back on New Years day a week on Sunday, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year to everyone at the East Lancashire Railway and all the readers of the ELR Forum.
Deep in the heart of Swinetown.
