The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 30-10-2016.

Post by asbibby »

:) Today i was joined by Len, Clive and Jonathan, Jack is still recovering at home from a recent illness, we hope to see Jack back with us next Sunday.

The task today was to erect the Christmas lights at Heywood, the mobile tower scaffold had been recovered from the C & W shed and brought back to Bury Bolton Street Station by Simon the full time electrician.

Clive and Len reset the station clock at BBS after the clocks went back last night.

I picked up from the Standard Four shed the modified speedo shaft assembly which had a new brass sleeve fitted to the shaft to enable us to test the speedo off our engine 80097.
We have previously fitted a new coil and magnet assembly from a DMU Smiths speedo generator, all we need to do now is test it to ensure it generates some electricity to power the moving coil meter, which is the speed indicator in the cab.

We recovered the scaffold and the strings of lights some tools, spare bulbs and boarded the first train up to Heywood Station.

The first string of lights were erected and tested to see how many of the bulbs require replacing, Simon rang up to say that they will be ordered next week.

Lunch was then taken at Heywood with tea kindly provided by the Stationmaster.

A new halogen bulb was fitted in one of the station lights, two had been changed the previous week.

The second string of lights were then strung up and tested, we then dismantled the last station lamp head towards Castletown and isolated the supply.
This lamp head will be modified to see if we can change the halogen bulbs for the more efficient LED corn bulbs as fitted to the rest of the station lights.

We then dismantled the scaffold and loaded all our equipment back onto the train. It was decided that we would carry on to Rawtenstall to check on the station clocks and to change a blown bulb in the shelter to a LED light.

We then boarded the train back to BBS and stored away the equipment we had been using, back next week for some more Christmas light installations. 8)
Deep in the heart of Swinetown.
