The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 21-8-2016.

 A full team today, John, Len, Clive, Jonathan and myself, first job was to put the kettle on for a brew and sample some carrot cake and lemon drizzle cake which Clive had brought in for us to sample.

We worked on re-assembling the speedometer generator which we are re-building from parts from a DMU speedo generator, the coil was fixed into the housing and secured by drilling a hole in the housing and then tapping the hole to enable a screw to be fitted.

The coil connections were then lengthened and covered with heat shrink tubing, then threaded through the coil housing and soldered onto the external connector.

Two missing nuts off the external connector were sourced and fitted along with the generator cover which had the holes slightly enlarged to fit over the new studs.

New studs had been made for the generator but they needed a bit of fitting and sourcing some nuts, then sawing them to length.

Attention then turned to the speedo head which had the newly refurbished M.P.H. plate fitted to the moving coil meter.
A new pointer needle was then fixed in place using some epoxy resin, the moving coil meter was then tested for continuity along with the speedo generator coil.

We are now awaiting the main shaft which has had new bearings fitted to be given back to us, after having a sleeve made for the shaft. :)

A final brew was had washed down with a large Swiss Roll which Jonathan had brought in.
