The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 02-3-2014.

Post by asbibby »

:D Saturday was a PAT testing day for Jonathan, we had been given a selection of electrical kitchen appliances for use on the railway.
The electrical leads and plugs were checked for any defects and then PAT tested and logged onto the register.
If any department needs a replacement kettle or toaster just contact the electrical department at BBS.

Sunday saw a full team out, Simon the ELR electrician, Jonathan, Clive, Len, John and myself, Len and Jonathan tested the fire alarm call points in BBS and The Trackside. No problems were found and the results logged in the appropriate books.

Clive had re-designed the circuitry for the remote switching of the platform lights at Summerseat Station after a protection diode had blown the previous week.
We decided to split into two groups, Clive and Jonathan would go to Summerseat Station to reconfigure the electronic control circuitry
in our electrical cubicle, whilst the rest of us would carry on to Ramsbottom Station to refit a canopy light fitting.

The ladders were sourced from the disabled toilet and we re-erected the canopy unit and connected it back up to the station lighting supply.

Clive had asked us as part of the modifications to the remote light switching at Summerseat to connect an earth into the run down timer wiring so that the earth could be switched and a LED be illuminated when the platform lights were switched on.
This will provide proof that the lights are on whether the lights have been switched on via the clock timer/photo cell or via the remote switching at Ramsbottom signal box.

The outside Victorian lantern illuminating the steps outside the signal box was re-connected up to the manual delay timer which is about two minutes, to allow the signalman to safely negotiate the steps in hours of darkness.

Clive and Jonathan were delayed after catching the DMU at Summerseat Station on their way to meet up with us at Ramsbottom Station, the DMU fortunately for all the passengers, emerged from the tunnels before coming to a halt about three hundred metres short of Ramsbottom Station.
They along with their fellow passengers were stuck for about forty five minutes before being rescued by a diesel, sent from BBS to push them into Ramsbottom Station.

Once we had all met up we waited for the Standard tank to take us all back to BBS for a delayed lunch and a brew.
We tided up the workshop a bit before having a last brew and sampling some of Mr. Kipling's finest.
Deep in the heart of Swinetown.
