The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 22nd. August 2010.

Post by asbibby »

Jonathan came into our BBS workshop on Saturday to strip, clean and paint some more of the 24v carriage plugs.

On Sunday I showed up for the first time in four weeks after a forced absence, I was joined by Jonathan, Len, Clive and John.
First job as usual was to test out the fire alarm systems in BBS and the Trackside this was done and logged by Jonathan and Len.

Meanwhile the rest of us sorted out the tools we would need to remove and refit carriage plugs, we also took down with us some carriage plugs which we had previously refurbished, we then set off to the Carriage & Wagon shed to fit said plugs.
We changed the plugs on a newly refurbished MK11 blue and grey carriage, swapping the plugs for newly cleaned, moulded plugs, next up was a MK1 carriage we changed two plugs on this carriage before recovering four moulded plugs from a MK1 carriage in carriage one siding these will be properly cleaned before being refitted.
It was now lunch time so we retreated back to our workshop at BBS for sarnies and a brew.

Back to the C & W workshop to carry on with the fitting of two more plugs on the MK1, next up was another MK1 carriage all four plugs were changed for refurbished ones, next up were two MK1 ones which had old plugs fitted we took these off one of the carriages and replaced them with refurbished ones, the other we took the old plugs off to be taken down to our workshop for stripping, painting, cleaning and rewiring, also this carriage requires spade terminals fitting to the carriage wiring we will finish this carriage next week or the week after.
In total we collected five moulded plugs for cleaning and sixteen old plugs for stripping and rewiring.
This lot will keep us busy for another month or so, all the refitted plugs had new restraining chains fitted also.
We made our way back to our workshop for another brew before calling it a day, more of the same next week, unless something else crops up.
Deep in the heart of Swinetown.
