The Electrical Volunteers report Sunday 8th. August 2010.

Post by asbibby »

A rare weekend off for Jonathan as Clive was joined by Len and John to tackle the jobs at hand.
The fire alarm call points were checked again and logged in the fire alarm test book.

Clive had brought with him a selection of plumbing components to install the new hot water boiler at Townsend Fold signal box, they decided it would be quicker if they went up to Townsend Fold in Clive's car.

The new heater was duly fitted with two new flexible hoses, copper pipe and a new isolation tap, all duly fixed to the wall, the heater was tested and proven to work satisfactory, the men then returned back to BBS for lunch and a brew.

While the men were partaking of their lunch the R.O. called round saying that the Station lights at Summerseat were on all of the time and also that Ramsbottom signal box, the outside lamp post light was not working.

It was decided that Clive and John would go up to Summerseat in John's van to see what the problem was, and that Len would stay in the workshop heat shrinking some of the refurbished carriage plugs.
On arriving at Summerseat Station and opening the electrical equipment cabinet it was found that someone had been in the cabinet and had moved a live wire from the input side of the time switch and put it on the output side of the time switch so powering the lights on continously.
We have passed on this information to Malcolm Vickers to investigate as to why or who had done it!
The wiring was put back to has it should be and all was well, the lights went off.

Clive and John then made there way to Ramsbottom signal box to investigate the outside lamp post mounted light that was not working, this was soon established that the countdown timer switch was faulty, it will be repaired or replaced in the next week or so.
It was getting late so Clive and John made their way back to BBS and home, another busy day for the electrical team.
Deep in the heart of Swinetown.
