The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 28th Febuary 2010.

Jonathan came in on Saturday to do some work on the station lights from Summerseat, grinding off all the rust, prior to rubbing down and painting.
On Sunday John, Jonathan and myself arrived at our BBS workshop to be met by Malcolm Vickers, he gave us all the information to test out the fire alarm system in BBS booking office, the corridor and the two staircases leading down to the platforms.
We identified each fire point and numbered them, there are six fire points, one in the enquiry office, one in the booking office, one at the top of each staircase and one at the bottom of each staircase.
We tested each fire point to ensure that they all activated the fire siren.
Every week we will test the fire alarm starting at call point one then call point two and so on.
We then tested the fire alarm in the Trackside pub/cafe starting again at fire point Z1/1 this week then moving on to Z1/2 next week, we did a full test on the Trackside fire alarm system last week.
Next job was to phone up Ramsbottom Station staff to see if the booking office corridor lights were still giving trouble, needless to say they were, we sourced a few spares and caught the 12:20 train up to Rammy.
We borrowed the tall step ladders from the station and found the fault to be a broken wire in the bayonet light fitting, but due to a previous water leak in the corridor when some tea leaves nicked the lead from the roof, water had seaped into the fitting and the screws securing the electrical wiring were seized up.
We cleaned up years of dust and grime off the shade and globe and did the same to the other light fitting in the corridor, leaving them with one light cleaned up and the other one will have to have the bayonet fitting replaced next week.
Back we went to BBS to pick up two eight foot and two six foot flurescent tubes and some starters to fix the light fittings in the diesel workshop, three of us completed this job which just goes to show you that many hands can make lights work.
Back to our workshop then for a well earned brew and a warm, whats on next week who knows?
Deep in the heart of Swinetown.
