The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 7th Febuary 2010.

When we arrived in the workshop two more refurbished station lamps had been done by Jonathan on Saturday, only another three lamps to go, four have already been refurbished by Jonathan, then we can go and swap them for seven lamps at Summerseat Station.
On Sunday Jonathan, John Len, Clive and myself, a full compliment of staff turned up to install new bulkhead lights in the new shelter at Heywood Station.
We assembled all the parts needed, conduit, conduit fittings, elbows, saddles, pipe vice, dies, various nuts and bolts and the two bulkhead light fittings. We then loaded all the equipment onto the guards van and caught the first train up to Heywood Station, on arrival we unloaded all the equipment and set about centralising the two light fittings, then fastened them to the back support of the shelter using conduit saddles we then measured the next piece of conduit, threaded it at both ends and fastened it to the outside of the shelter. To connect the inside conduit to the external conduit we used a piece of flexible conduit. More bends and conduit were fitted to connect into the back of the nearest station lamp which was close by.
We then broke for some lunch and a brew in the warmth of the waiting room.
All that was needed now was to wire up both lights, draw the wiring through the conduit and connect up to the lamp post. We then tested the circuit before covering up the station light photocell and switching on the station lamps to ensure all the lights were working, including the new shelter light fittings. Sucess so we caught the 14:20 train back to BBS and a well earned brew.
What lies in store next week?
Deep in the heart of Swinetown.
