Read on wnxx forum that that the mainline connection into the lancs is going to be blocked for 9 days commencing sat 30th march.

Does anyone know what work is taking place ?

New platform being built at castleton for elr extension ?

Unfortunately the work affects the planned move of 33109 + 37109 + 50015 to mid Norfolk for their diesel gala next weekend :(

End of an era matey, the pegs are going. k4 and k1 worked through yesterday and now they will be going. Very sad but progress has to go on, believe it wont be long before Barnetby goes.

The possession (Item No 168 in LNWN WON 01 13) starts on Monday (1st April ) at 0030 and lasts until next Sunday (7th April) at 0020. Although there is an item for today (0020 until Monday 0030) between Moston and Rochdale (Item 167) for work on 26 points.

During 168 a number of signals will be replaced / repositioned and Track Circuit Block working will be fitted between the existing boxes (Vitirol Works / Castleton East and Rochdale West).

Castleton signalbox will be officially closed during this time and all the signals controlled from here will be covered, switches clipped and padlocked to provide a route between Rochdale and Manchester for mainline traffic. The absolute block section will be between Vitirol Works and Rochdale West.

This is all a prelude to these boxes  , and that garden shed  finally going.

Back in work today... :(

The signals which are being replaced, will be with a single lens LED type capable of showing 3 aspects... The new CE52 at Castleton South Junction was already in place when I travelled home along the M62 on Monday .

However... the following semaphore signals will remain :D. CE28 (Full Arm) from the Up and Down through, along with CE16 (Short Arm) from the Down Sidings onto the Down Goods Loop. Also ALL the mechanical ground shunt signals (except for CE9 which originally controlled movements from the Up to Down Sidings and CE29 into the Neck) are being retained, but nearly all of them are being moved anywhere between 5 and 16 metres from the points they protect :? ... Anyone else see the logic in this part of the plan?

Well the ELR be taking any of the now redundant signaling back to Bury? Only thing is I noticed one of the removed posts with both distant and normal signals on lay on the floor with signal arms bent backwards, guess that isnt going to do it any good for re use!!
