I would not be suprised to see this change and steam come on at preston, steam through oxford rd I have never seen in preservation, others have been following main line steam a lot longer than I and have not seen any pics of a steam tour through oxford rd piccadilly corridor, bit no doubt I will be informed by others more knowledgable.

Or re-routed via Victoria?

Somewhere I have a photo of 48151 passing through platform 14 at Piccadilly, albeit on the back of the train with a diesel on the front. This was the ECS from Longsight to Liverpool prior to The Fifteen Guinea Special 40th anniversary re-run on 10th August 2008. The 8F had stabled at Liverpool Road (MOSI) overnight, so I'm guessing that it had worked through Oxford Road and Piccadilly under its own steam earlier in the day. As far as I know, this is the nearest we have come to seeing steam through Oxford Road (and also the CLC route to Liverpool) in preservation. With regard to the trip on 21st September, I too would not be at all surprised to see it routed via Victoria, but Tornado has broken a few moulds already (e.g. steam INTO Euston), so who knows.

Bittern worked into Piccadilly from Stockport last year, but AFIK didn't go down the Oxford Road line.

Anyway, I've booked for this trip, (leaving Stockport 0730, get back 23.45!) so I'll see which way she goes. If she gets back after Midnight, do I have to pay for 2 days parking?

Not seen 60163 in BR green yet.

We'll have to stop meeting like this, your Missus will be talkin'

It is an unusual and slightly puzzling route, given the normal intensity of traffic on the Picc thro' platforms and the number of normal passengers whom throng those platforms - but a couple of clues..

1) The TT says it's going via Picc

and

2) the timings support that. You won't get from Stockport to Vic via Denton Jctn in 15mins. and the same 15mins allowance is shown in both directions.

Should be a fantastic trip whatever the route though. 8)

OK lets try this....

Crewe, Stockport, Manchester Piccadilly, Bolton, Preston to Lancaster - diesel hauled.

NOW look at the 'Fellsman' trips and look where steam comes on ..............

Yes...........LANCASTER.

And I suspect it may well also come off at Lancaster on the return.

Just a guess!!!

It's a well advertised trip I must say. I saw an advertisement when I passed through Glasgow! Strange place to advertise unless you want a single to Manchester

Unfortunately I won't be winning the lottery so won't be on it.

Then I 'guess' the advertisers should consider the power (get' it eh eh  ok Suit yourself :D ) Of their message

The train will be steam hauled throughout departing from Crewe, Stockport, Manchester Piccadilly, Bolton, Leyland, Preston and Lancaster. This tour will feature 500 miles of steam haulage behind Britain’s newest steam locomotive sporting its new Brunswick Green livery.

No guessing left there.. :?

the only one being the next time you're let out to get the beer in!

Correct - Steam all the way as far as we know.

The Fellsman starts at Lancaster - the steam doesn't come on/off here as it works ecs from Carnforth. I'm not sure if Lancaster has the capability to change locos - Preston is a more obvious choice if needed.

Only thing that might be questionable is whether Tornado is cleared to run through Farnworth Tunnel??? I recall a previous steam charter being re-routed because of this.

Tornado was dragged through Farnworth tunnel at the back of the Royal Train ECS to Preston.

4M10, a Southampton to Trafford Park service (WTT pass @ 0737) is shown as cancelled in this week; so this may be the gap they are looking at through Piccadilly.

It could have a clear room through Ordsall Lane and Salford Crescent. However, it would have to be looped at Burden Junction as it catches a stopper up (Bizarre  2F04 Buxton to Wigan North Western). This would be to allow 1S38 through, as there is no margin beyond Bolton to Lostock Junction between the Northern and TPE; but there is plenty of white space behind S38 from Bolton to Euxton Junction. WCML will be a doddle then....

Not looked at Crewe/Stockport to Piccadilly as 4M10 is routed via Styal so not easy to plan backwards in my head across Slade Lane... now or any time of the day... ;)

it'd make a great pic on the bridge on oxford road ... but may have to resort to one of the car parks above the line just to make sure of getting a shot
