Orange!

For some reason, when there has been new posts in the last 3 days, they (for me) have not been highlighted orange! This means I have to search for the 'new posts' since my last visit manually! Any solutions?

Are you having to log in twice?

If so it's the old 'bug' again!

Best bet is to login via the new private messages link at the top centre of the index page.

The board is working OK here - highlights the unread posts etc. so I can only suggest that you clear out cookies and temp files from your computer and try the private message login as per my previous post.

Can you not update to phpBB3? I've deployed it across a few sites and it doesn't seem to suffer from the "double log in bug"

Alternatively, SMF do great forum software that is really easy to use.

Tried both and don't like either!

I really think that this little problem gets too much publicity - the answer is to simply login through the private message access or delete cookies in the browser .... it isn't a problem then!

I don't think that's the answer and it's not a proper solution.
Logging in through the PM link shows unread messages initially but you have to read them all before logging out or refreshing the page or else the orange highlight vanishes! :-(
Other similar forums I use don't have the same problem. They remember what I haven't seen and when I log in from elsewhere it still shows those messages as unread. For example http://www.t-gauge.net/forum3/ works great. It shouldn't be down to cookies on one machine. This applies across several browsers. I use IE, Chrome, Opera mobile and Firefox.

Please can it be fixed?

Sam, I haven't been an admin in here since early last year so I definitely can't fix it. I couldn't fix it when I was admin but that's not to say it can't be fixed!

You might disagree with the workaround but, unless you clear all cookies out of your computer every time before logging in to the forum, the best way is as I've previously suggested.

Oh, it's nothing to do with your browser so trying different browsers isn't likely to make any difference. The fact that clearing all cookies out prior to logging in makes everything work OK suggests that there is a problem with this version of the phpbb software in that respect.

phpBB's cookie handling has been poor for the last few versions, I'm not sure why. In the control panel there is settings for cookie handling etc. Most of the time it works for me, I'm logged in and unread posts are highlighted, other times I have to log back in and click the remember me button again. (I'm using firefox 3.6.9) it may be that the expiry of the cookies is set short (a day or so) maybe extending their lifespan would be a first line? Maybe if BlueGoldfish could have a look?

If your seeing orange then maybe its the curse of the pway or the pway calling

LOL! Neglect the pway at your peril :-)

It's definitely nothing to do with cookies. They are specific to each machine.
The forum software running on the forum server should remember each members info. so that when the member logs in from another machine, which messages they have & haven't read is remembered and shown.
