Re: The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 21-04-2019.

Fluorescent tubes? I thought we were changing to LED ones or can't we get 8 foot units? No 8 foot LED tubes. They do exist. I fitted a couple of dozen in an ex-employers warehouse as a favour a few months back. To my surprise they wasn't the two part naff things either. They're expensive, but 8ft l...

It'll be interesting to see how you get on. Out of curiosity, what make and model of tubes did you go for?

Our caretaker uses more LED tubes than he does flourescent, despite a 50:50 mix.

Re: The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 12-07-2015.

Go for the warm white LEDs if you do. But beware.... My employer bought into the LED tube replacement a few years ago. I would estimate 50% of the "tubes" have now failed over the 2 year period. Seemingly the enclosed fittings suffering worse with the open louvre type not being as affected...

Re: The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 23-11-2014.

:) Simon the full time electrician had bought about eight new halogen bulbs at a cost of £40.00 each plus the dreaded VAT, the council had not given it too much thought regarding cost when the lights were originally bought and fitted. We are now lumbered with the cost of replacing the expensive bul...

Re: The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 8-6-2014.

We then caught the next train pulled by the Teddy Bear engine to Rawtenstall Station to replace the blown D type lamp. The D type lamp that was removed was a two pin type and the spare we had brought with us was a four pin type. Fortunately the Station Master had a spare D type two pin lamp which w...

When i have fitted fluorescents to stuff liable to flex. I have in the past used short lengths of safety chain pulled outwards to allow for the flex. After-all you only need a little flex to pop the tubes out.

Re: Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 13-10-13

I recently had a big throw out of things I hadn't used in 10 years and it's surprising how many bits I've wanted! But on the plus side, the garage and loft are clean and tidy now! On the 8 foot flu. fittings; the tubes are now so expensive, it's worth swapping them out for 5 foots. Last box I bough...

Re: The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 16-9-2012.

After lunch it was back to the Santa carriage to finish off the cleaning and wiring of the control units, it appears that this carriage had been causing problems with the ETH for some time according to Lee Kenny and Simon. John found out after some testing, that it appears that three out of the fou...

Re: The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 12-8-2012.

What are they blocked with? Probably teaching you to suck eggs but when I used to do such things for a living we would have fittings (made up) to connect the conduit to a air source and even if we had pulled out all the old cable we would give it a good blast to clear the debris. You just have to be...
