I was on that railtour. Smashing day with both locos performing brilliantly. We blitzed Shap and flattened Ais Gill. Thanks Ian, it will be a long time before i forget the noise from the front end.

The Cotton mill was due in Vic at 1444hrs and as was stated she was in trouble leaving Darwen. It is feasible that she was late due to this. I cannot see how the movement ex Bury could have been her in light of this. They told me they were waiting for a fitter to crawl underneath and were using wate...

That is possible if they could not fix it at Castleton, maybe me asking about repairs at Rileys gave them an idea as they did not seem to have even considered it the way they were talking at 5pm. I left soon after so your info could be correct.

Spoke to support crew at Castleton about 5pm. Believe packing blown out of gland on inside cylinder. Asked if they were going to Rileys for attention but they said they hoped to limp home after some running repairs. They were making use of a water supply in the nearby street.
